Beady little eyes,
Now jostle in the den
And wait for the morsels
Or gills that’ll drop
For moments of insatiate claws.
Furry little limbs, now poised with rage
In primordial struggles in republic of
hate.
Running along napkins of Mcdelicious sauce,
They scatter through the packs of Subways
in trash
And gobble our leftover of Domino’s in
haste.
Sipping through my can of diet-loving fizz,
I pause and then rush to my Prada in sale.

Great capture of the insanity of shopping and material greed ~
The ending lines threw an unexpected kick in the belly ~
Hopefully, you at least bought something for Mickey when you went to embibe in pretentions. Prada?
How relevant...nice work.
I must say, I can't imagine you rushing to a Prada sale :D. All joking aside this was a great write for the age we live in.
Great imagery and pace here!

You captured the contrasts of existence very well. Thanks for sharing :)
I love 'Mcdelicious!.
It's easy to miss the counterpoint of irony that you're painting here! Of the shopper, theoretically on a different plane, but so similar to the scurrying of a rodent that you use metaphorically in the first stanzas. Great conceptualization!
I love all the details you intertwined in this poem - one powerful read!
What we may see behind the market is certainly not very 'bling', is it? The rats remind us of our own humanity, since they feed on our waste.
prada sale?? i guess in the world of mcdonaldisation, we have all sold a bit of ourselves...little by little..as your favorite poet would say, in coffee spoons
Clever, so creative. I especially like:
Mcdelicious sauce
my can of diet-loving fizz
The Prada sale surprised me too. Love the juxtaposition of critters living off waste, and the excess of human shopping.......even worse when one thinks of children in third world countries living off waste, as well. This poem has a bite, and is good to read and think about.
thanks for all the feedback.I understand that many of you are surprised by the Prada sale.quite rightly.first of all,as you surely understand, Prada is simply a metonymic term for the entire world of branded luxury we are obsessed with.also, if Prada sales are unlikely, could it be that the sale was of false/inauthentic Prada items and yet we would go for them, just to flaunt the brand?
What a contrast in lives and yet, not really at all. It's all a bit like a rat race.
Well written and well said!
Abin,
You, not so delicately, detail the seedier side of human nature with this image-filled piece. Our excess and waste, greed and haste, desires to impress one another. You honed this to the essential, which I greatly appreciate.
Yuck. :)
On both counts of animalistic behavior, that it.

Such a good comparison between the distasteful greed of the rat and the consumer.
Ok....until that last couple of lines I was taking this a bit more literally that I probably should have....I like the comparison....but it definitely creeps up on you unless you read more into the title. cool writing...loved the detail and description.
