Memory

Memory has its ghosts, full of whispers and sighs.
At times in the concert of first monsoon rain
They deck out all the troops
And fiddle our sense
With footfalls in sepia-coloured lanes.

Groping for words, I've called out their names
Which drowned in the tears unaddressed.

Puzzled with the cryptographic symbols in vain
I search for my keys and linger in the rain.

Beautiful and vivid. Nostalgia seems to wield that kind of power over us. For some, it is the gentle shower of rain; for others, it is like a tsunami tide.

Loved this!

i read this as a chant murmured under one's breath while walking alone in a trail. i have walked that trail many times and will again.

nice chant, mi amigo

Welcome back Abin! Smiles.

There definitely sometimes are fleeting images of memories that we just can't piece together in a meaningful way...but we know that they are important & we keep searching for those illusive keys.

'Memory has its ghosts'--- very powerful opening. The poem is well crafted and I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing.

This is very beautiful, Abin, imbued with mood....I love the word "monsoon", it takes me away.........

Your poem takes me back to rainy days in the islands when I'd role play with siblings in the downpour a scene from some war movie, was it Saving Private Ryan or G.I. Jane? anyway, love your piece a lot! a combo of rain and troops can be exhilarating.

How apt the the double meaning of "searching for my keys" is for a writer as they struggle to express themselves much like the difficulty of opening a door.

man this piece moves - sounds good aloud AC

"fiddle our sense"
I like the troops/the names/the keys--all turning backin on themselves. I have triggers to memory that are seasonal but unclear, more like a spiritual meeting. Hold on to the keys!

Nice to see you around, Abin. There is a decided musical quality to these lines.

Rain has this wonderful quality of invoking memories. It doesn't know if the memory is a happy one, or a sad one. But it's beautiful all the same, as is your poem :)
