For Us

Borne in the attrition of steel-drilling rocks
As abrasive pebbles that are utterly askew
We clash in the doldrums of small dried air
And let flow of volcanic ash.

But what better bedrock than granite to sustain
A mansion with decades in its length?

So undaunted still amid sparks that'll fly,
We mine our depths for ores full of gems
And laughing at sugar-syrup blockbuster tales
Give all those dolls a big lie.

the end of this is rather haunting...the sugar sweet lies....to distract us...i would much rather mine deep for the gems than just skim the surface...the mansion i think if life as well...

I agree with Brian--we all pay the cost--and make the deals before we know the costs involved

I am thinking of granite & ash as bedrock of relationships ~ It can only be sustain if both mines the depths for gems, not lies ~

Abin, I always look forward to what you present us with. I was not disappointed. That last stanza is truly chilling, a comment on the times.

I especially like the second stanza - mining our depths!

Let this voice spread...a poignant poem!
A man is responsible for his ignorance. Very well written!

A good bedrock still isn't strong enough to support lies and sugar-syrup blockbuster tales...

I think this is a very nice, thought provoking piece.

The opening line is amazing, Abin, and the remainder of the poem does not disappoint. There is self-knowledge here, and an acceptance of a lifestyle we cannot change or escape.

The bad and the good of mining--will it support strong and healthy homes for all classes or destroy the very foundation of all things? I would there were a middle ground to experiment before proceeding. In my relationships I have on occasion found the gems.

Fascinatingly cryptic.

One tries to get enough info to deal with matters. Sometimes one gets played out just as much. It's true! Nicely Abin!
