Monsoon Music

Drizzle of the monsoon on drought-ridden skin
Washes down brown barren leaves from my lips
To strum through my days, new sonatas on flute
That swell to the call of coal-coloured clouds
In raptures of notes unexplored.

Tracks that had grown all gravelled till now
Are stitched into patterns of sprouting new grass
Even as ducks and geese paddle forth
On ponds that are drummed with harmony of hearts
In these our days full of dimples on earth
That bubble with hymnals from choirs of toads.

Puzzled by joy, I wonder and watch
A world that is buzzing with news of our date.

The music of sound, sight, touch, and cohesion...very complete, incredibly thoughtful.

Also, it's great to see frequent posting from you.

You see, it is the whole poem, that date with the monsoon that brings beauty and not pain, that I love. The narrator may be the person who receives the gift or the god who creates it and now revels in the joy of what it has become?

The rhythms communicate the feelings well. Love the ending. The poem brought an emotional response from me.

I especially love the sound qualities of your opening lines in this poem: the way the d's and b's work together with the double consonants and vowels. This is a wonderful technicality of your work, which I appreciate over and above your descriptions.

I love this: "swell to the call of coal-coloured clouds"

Your closing makes me think that the whole world is singing for you because you're in love. Either you had a really great first date, or you've set a wedding date. Or maybe today is the wedding.

You captured it very well. The croaking of toads especially after a monsoon downpour. It's certainly is musical. Great write, Abin!
