I've lost my models of paintings I planned
And grope for the shades in a palette of faith
For a patchwork of destiny and will.
Cloistered in halls full of mirrors I pine
For ways beyond mirages untold.
Hammers in hands, I'll swing unto this last,
Blazing in fields full of splinters and shards.

Do you paint, Abin?
It is sad when one cannot do what one relly wants to do, for whatever reason. I used to paint...haven't in a while. Sometimes I miss it.
I used to Mary.long ago.But we all have to do what we dont want to and cant do what we want most.that's the story of most common lives.
Yes, it is, Abin. Hopefully we both will paint again someday. I think many poets also paint!
The imagery is lovely. Hammer in hands and splinters is so powerful.
This reads like a cry of an artist mourning his lost art. Your opening lines are built around a brilliant idea, and you carry it through to an awesome punchline.
"....a patchwork of destiny and will". What a brilliant line. Poignant poem, my friend.
Isn't it sad that we can't really do what we want to do ~
Splinters and shards paint your tortured soul ~
Great writing here Abin ~
Loss, shades, splinters and shards - lovely cameo pieces of old contentment! Beautiful!
I relate. Smashing is a good response. At first.
How powerful! A seeker, trapped in the colors and spaces that just do not rise up there in a flaming faith. Smash it, for the last, smash the walls. I cannot imagine the disappointment of faith lost and found to be blandish--even as if it was really aging and the loss of youth protested. We "Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. " Thank you for doing one up on Dylan Thomas!
It's a powerful expression, Abin! All goes to show that there lots more coming in the pipeline!

Time to break out and try a new medium?
The line that really grabbed me was " grope for the shades in a palette of faith" Great images in this poem!!
Of course you can!! It is just a matter of priority. Even if it is an hour or two a week. Perhaps you can't make a living with it... but a true artist paints for the joy of it, for themselves.
I agree with Margaret - make time for yourself to be that artist - Everybody deserves freedom of expression...
I am not so sure that this is about painting....what I got was a life that was not tracking as expected and the reflection of the reality that was not desired, with hammer in hands one can reshape that destiny. I could be way off. This was punchy and a great length for this kind of speculation. Writing should speak to you, and it may speak in ways unintended, but that s the magic of it all. Great work.
I really like...
Hammers in hands, I'll swing unto this last,

Great imagery there :)
The frustrated artist is a wonderful metaphor. It is human nature to beg the questions: what if I had done this; or could do that? Just as the artist who feels there is more inside than what appears on the canvas, this natural frustration grows when one begins to question self and picks at the foundations of self-actualization and awareness.
What a wonderful write........you are gifted...
"grope for the shades in a palette of faith" Gorgeous writing Abin as always!
Sometimes we watch helplessly as our dreams slip through our fingers.
Sometimes a display of anger is what we need to retrieve them...
Sometimes we need to be a little selfish.

Loss of a dream comes to all of us at one point. Great piece Abin!
this is just fabulous!
We often have to go through difficult times before we can taste success. True, Abin!
