Troubles

Angles of bones from deep within pits
Question this air full of burnt rubber smoke
And chart the new numbers of corpses unclaimed
That spittle my districts in red.

Quietly I walk, but look back with fear
And wonder whose turn is this day to be shot.

Hamlets that rang with melodies of birds
Or fields that had ripened with golden-green songs
Are pale now with mouths full of ash.

The veritable dance of democratic farce
Is cymballed with howlings of orphans in vain
In a land that has lost all its shame.

Oft have I thought of marching on streets
With candles or banners unfurled.
But fearful of causes too distant from mine,
Have left all my anguish unsaid.

So how should I find a new roof that'll house
All of our voices in sync?

Rattled still I type among gunshots at noon
And puzzle over souffles and mousse.

This read as both universal and personal. I loved the opening lines about the bones. And the line about finding a new roof. The ending was a great commentary on the attitudes of many. Skillful, evocative write.

My favorite lines are:

"So how should I find a new roof that'll house
All of our voices in sync?"

Your poem strikes me as both personal and political. A striking write.

I can so relate to wanting to march for causes but feel too helpless or overwhelmed. This poem touched me deeply, especially the line about wondering who will be shot today. Great job.

This poem really touched me deeply. It felt like a kick in the gut... in a good way.

Powerful write. You really express the frustration that exists over the lack of unity in this country and the world. Makes us feel helpless. Sometimes it's so overwhelming that we just focus on the meaningless and mundane.

"have left all my anguish unsaid." Powerful, kiddo. Thankfully, in our work, we can utter some of this anguish.

Souffle and mousse: hard to digest with all the trouble in the air.

This one pulled at my heart. So well said Abin. Excellent imagery...that third stanza especially. Provocative writing.

This leaves me in thought about all the causes and shootings and death. Scary to think about the latter two. When we long for peace in our lives the first can even be overwhelming.

Continues to ring a black toll in my brain long after shutdown.

Brilliantly haunted write.

You make such a strong social statement here, and one feels it could be applicable to almost any country.

I thought these lines were epigrammatic in their summation:

The veritable dance of democratic farce
Is cymballed with howlings of orphans in vain
In a land that has lost all its shame.

wow, Abin, this is so strong. it's so compelling how the rhythm of your lines trots along, in comparison with your subject matter. "cymballed with howlings of orphans in vain," that's just superb.

Damn....this is the roof, you've made a great dent by sharing these thoughts across the universe. Thet first two line stanza is so perfect...You have laid it down, I for one am gobbling it up and spreading it across. Really thought this was a masterpiece.

Your words have an underlying political and social message ~ However far the causes or we don't see the immediate effect of such walks and marches, I believe they make a statement nevertheless. We must let our politicians know our sentiments, and not let these farce cymballed with the wind ~

You turn the feeling of social and political impotence into a beautiful piece of art. that takes skill. Your cadence and diction blend together beautifully, despite sadness and futility in the message.

You got the smells, voices, taste, visions and senses that goes down to the bones....quite a piece
